Eldoret has amazing locations that are considerably cheap to visit. You don’t have to stretch too far to get to these places.

Within Eldoret, you will find different places to explore, go for a picnic, try freshwater fish, party, and relax.

What is exciting about these places is that they are easier to find and cheap too.

So, if you are in Eldoret on a budget, you are likely to have the best time without breaking your bank account.

I found Eldoret to be chill and calm an aspect that is very different from Mombasa and Nairobi.

To be honest, it doesn’t have much to show for it, but you still can get the best out of this amazing area.

These are cheap places to visit in Eldoret;

1. Poa Place Resort — Eldoret Nature & Culture Centre

Poa Place Resort is one of the coolest places to visit in Eldoret.

As the word ‘poa’ (cool) suggests, this resort offers a variety of services at a very affordable price.

When I came to Eldoret and wanted to explore what this resort has to offer, it blew my expectations.

You can visit the resort just to hang out, get a good cup of coffee, go for a swim, dine, see animals, and take your kids or siblings to the children’s park.

The resort offers a lot of great services enough to capture your attention to spend your entire day there.

The area is well-kept. Being there will make you feel like you are rich just for the day.

Don’t let it scare you, you only have to spend money on what you want.

You can just choose to hang out in their garden and have a single cup of coffee.

The Poa Place is usually super active during weekends. People take their families and significant other just to enjoy themselves.

I specifically went to Poa Place to explore the animal shelter and cultural center.

You have to pay Ksh 200 ($2) for a Kenyan citizen but for a non-citizen, it’s Ksh 500 ($4.5) for a ticket to gain access to the animal park and cultural center.

The animals you should expect to see at Poa Place Resort are ostriches, monkeys, tortoises, antelopes, hyenas, and snakes.

You can see these animals in their cages but you aren’t allowed to feed or provoke them by any means.

I was very much intrigued and at the same time terrified by the snake park.

It was at Poa Place Resort in Eldoret where I saw the biggest snake ever. I couldn’t even get close because of how scared I was.

There are different types of snakes that you will see in their glass cages.

After I finished touring the animal park, I went ahead to check the cultural houses that were there and learned how the Kalenjins built their houses and their way of life.

If I clearly remember there were Maasai, Kalenjins, Kikuyus, and Luo traditional houses built there.

They aren’t that big, but they demonstrate how their houses are built.

2. Rupa’s mall.

Another cheap place to visit is the Rupa’s mall.

The mall is located just a few minutes away from Poa Place along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway.

At Rupa’s mall, you can find shopping centers, saloons, restaurants, hotels, cinemas and so many other services.

The mall is so big — you can decide to stroll around the mall before you decide to do anything else.

The first thing I did when I went to Rupa’s Mall was walk on every floor and take several rides in the lifts.

The mall is super incredible, and modernized, and offers you a view of luxury you have never seen.

I didn’t go to Rupa’s Mall for the luxury, I went for window shopping — you can do the same if you are on a tight budget.

I didn’t even get into any restaurants while I was there but I entered the supermarket and bought some crips and chocolates.

But I came across amazing coffee spots that I believe in the future I’ll explore them again.

Explore the mall to the fullest before you decide to think of leaving for another place.

3. Eldoret Town.

Eldoret CBD Streets

Another place you can visit in Eldoret is Eldoret CBD. The town isn’t that fancy but you can see and learn a lot about Eldoret.

It is always a rule for me whenever I visit a new destination, I get to explore the town and visit the market areas before I think of going to touristic sites.

The town isn’t that so big don’t be afraid that you are going to get lost walking around.

Walking around the town to familiarize yourself with the area, capture some memories, and interact with the locals.

In Eldoret Town, you will come across so many businesses, street foods, chaotic markets around Ka-yellow Road, and financial services.

Within the town also there are cooler places to explore and go for a picnic.

I would suggest you walk along Nandi Road, this road is super calm, with trees on each side of the road and flowers.

This road isn’t that busy — noise pollution should be less of your concern.

Along the same road, you will come across a Hindu temple. I was even surprised when I saw it along this road.

It was big, colorful, and well-kept but I didn’t have the guts to enter.

I looked it from afar and kept strolling along the road.

Also, while you are in town don’t forget to walk around the bridge when entering town from Langas to see river Sosiani.

4. Fish points at Eastleigh.

When you are in Eldoret Town and you want to try Freshwater fish from Kisumu, I recommend you visit Eastleigh.

Around the Kitale stage close to Khetia Highlands supermarket, you will come across these fish spots.

This is a famous spot in town for those who want to try fish with ugali at an affordable price.

With Ksh 150 ($1.2) you can get big fried fish with Ugali. Instead of spending more than Ksh 500 ($4.5) in fancy hotels for lunch, this is an area I would recommend you visit.

There are a lot of fish points to choose from. When you arrive there everyone will be trying to pull you to his or her fish point.

Also, from the name Eastleigh, you know that this place is highly occupied by the Somali community if you once visited Nairobi Eastleigh.

This is the area where you can find Islamic attire because most of the Somalis have their shops at this point of town in Eldoret.

In front of Eastleigh, you will come across another area that is highly populated by Indians.

You will see many Indian temples along the way as you head towards the garages.

This is another interesting area to walk around and see the Indian community here.

5. Tamasha Lounge.

Tamasha Lounge is another incredible spot you should visit when you are in Eldoret.

Tamasha is located within Eldoret Langas just around Eldoret National Polytechnic.

When someone tells you it’s a lounge, all you can think about is that the place is all about partying and drinking.

Not only can you party at Tamasha Lounge but also get other services like barber, saloon, car wash, sports, and restaurants.

During the weekends it’s usually full of people — mostly they go there to party and drink.

But during weekend days the place is super calm. It offers great chilling spots.

I don’t party but since I was a student at Eldoret National Polytechnic, I used to pass through Tamasha Lounge heading there.

It won’t hurt to visit the place, get one cup of coffee, and hang out with your friends or just enjoy the view.

The place is well kept, you won’t regret visiting it.

6. Ndupawa Prestige Platinum Resort.

Still within Eldoret Langas just a few metres from Tamasha Lounge along Eldoret-Kisumu highway you will find Ndupawa Resort.

Ndupawa offers a variety of services just like Tamasha Lounge except that it doesn’t offer parties.

You can find a gym, swimming pool, hotel, restaurants, children’s park,  health club — steam bath and sauna and, cottages, and Ndupawa grill and steakhouse.

If you have a family and you would like to spend a weekend with them, this is the place I would recommend.

Its location also makes it easier to access the main road that links to Eldoret Town.

I went to Ndupawa when I was in Eldoret, and that is where I tried cappuccino for the first time.

They have an amazing coffee spot that you would enjoy if you are a coffee lover like me.

Apart from that you can walk around the resort and see other services you would like to get.

For a single cappuccino I paid Ksh 200 ($1.5) I honestly thought it would be more than that.

You can go for swimming at the pool, which is only about Ksh 300 ($2.5).

They also offer cottages if you are thinking of staying there.

7. Elgon view drive.

Along Elgon View Drive

Elgon View Drive is another amazing area you can visit when you are in Eldoret.

This is a road located behind Eldoret National  Polytechnic. It’s a very scenic area that you can go for a picnic.

The area is well kept — you can say this is where the rich hide in Eldoret.

The road is well-kept, calm, and colorful. A perfect place to walk around and clear your head.

I used to walk around this area on weekends, take some photos, and even film some YouTube videos.

If you are a photo nerd just like me, this is a good spot for taking photos.

There are amazing buildings along the roads, it’s an area where the rich stay.

8. Koromosho falls.

Another area you can visit in Eldoret is the Koromosho Falls.

This is one of the most highly visited areas in ELDORET. If you are searching for an adventure, a great place to chill and enjoy showering under the falls, I highly recommend you go to Koromosho Falls.

It’s a little bit far from Eldoret Town but it’s worth the visit.

The first time I visited Koromosho Falls when I was in Eldoret I paid Ksh 50 ($0.4) for the entrance but as of 2024 they increased the price to Ksh 100 ($0.9).

It’s still considerably cheap since it’s an incredible waterfall in Eldoret.

The area is fenced and there is a get where you will have to pay for you to gain access.

For you to have more fun while at Koromosho Falls, I challenge you to go down the falls. It’s a tricky and hard descent to the falls.

But that is what makes it more challenging and amazing. When you get to the bottom you will feel you did something worth it.

When you reach the falls, walk along the river, but be careful the rocks are slippery. This means you will have to carry your flops.

The water there is always very cold. So, prepare yourself psychologically.

You can take amazing photos and videos down the fall.

The other challenge you will have to deal with is climbing back up. I slipped several times through those rocks — take caution.

You can chill on top of the rocks and get an incredible view of river Sosiani.

9. Lobo Village

If you are in Eldoret this is another place you should visit if you want to a place to chill, walk around, enjoy an amazing meal, and get amazing views.

Lobo Village is underrated but I can tell you that it’s one of the best places to hang out in Eldoret.

As time goes by it has been improving. I visited the place several times but I never got enough of it.

What I love most about Lobo Village is how they have designed the place — umbrellas with some chairs where you can sit down, and have a drink while watching an artificial lake.

The lake is artificial, but it just doesn’t seem that way at all.

The environment is so chill and beautiful. I remember the first day visiting Lobo Village after my exam.

I went there to film a YouTube video, but it turned out to be a location that took me off the edge.

Lobo Village is an affordable place to visit because you don’t have to pay for entry.

You will only have to ensure you buy a meal that isn’t that expensive either.

At Lobo Village, I tried my first Spanish omelet and became a big lover of this meal.

Lobo Village is on the left side of the Kapsaret flyover when you are heading to Kapsabet.

These are some of the activities you can do at Lobo Village;

  • Horse riding.
  • Play pool table.
  • Boat riding.
  • Play archery.
  • Walk around the park and field.

Trust me, Lobo Village won’t disappoint you at all.

Lastly…

It’s super cheap to explore Eldoret as long as you avoid the luxurious side of things.

The good thing about this destination is that it’s chill and calm compared to Nairobi and Mombasa.

You will need some jackets when you are planning to explore Eldoret.

It gets super chilly in the mornings and evenings. The weather is unpredictable in this part of Kenya.

One minute it may be sunny and the next it’s a heavy downpour.

The food in Eldoret is cheap, especially groceries, fruit and milk. That’s what I love most about this town.

You can also find cheap accommodations and amazing places to chill. I came to Eldoret because of college, but I ended up finding it a perfect place for me to stay.
